2019 Brooks Vineyard Riesling
Tasting notes:
The Brooks Estate vineyard is located in the Eola Amity Hills region of the Willamette Valley AVA in Oregon. These 50+ year-old vines are own-rooted and farmed biodynamically. The first thing out of the glass is a sweet white peach note with honeycomb, Asian pear, and clover honey aromas all swirling together. On the palate bright Meyer lemon and rich Mandarin orange rule. Rain influenced the harvest timing and this fruit was incredibly high in acid so for the first time I stopped the fermentation leaving 6 grams per liter of residual sugar (RS.) This balancing act worked very well and rather than tasting sweet, the little bit of RS gives a wonderful rich mouthfeel and reinforces the Mandarin orange notes. (6.10.22 - Alan)
