2017 Choate Vineyard Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes:
This is definitely a wine that is defined by its growing region. The Choate vineyard is in the cool western end of the Russian River Valley AVA in the sub-AVA of Green Valley. The cool growing conditions produce wines of great sophistication and subtle flavors. Bright red fruits like cranberry and dusty cherry are at the front of the nose with a light violet note hanging back as you take in the aromas. There are more earthy notes of light baking spices and autumn leaves supporting the red fruit on the nose. On the palate it is decidedly earthy. Dried cherries, cocoa, and bitter chocolate impress you up front with a little blackberry and raspberry underneath. With a little extra time in the bottle, this wine is very well integrated upon release. (Updated 1.14.22 - Alan)
