2012 Floodgate Vineyard Gewürztraminer

This Gewürztraminer is truly unique in California. Styled after the great dry Gewürztraminers of Alsace, it’s notable for its subtlety and finesse, showing its grace initially in the sparkling pale yellow color in the glass. Aromas of lemon, mandarin orange and citrus blossom mix with less likely scents of wet slate and a slight hint of petrol. On the palate, this wine presents a bit of a puzzle: it’s very bright and lively, but it also possesses a lushness that would typically be associated with a bigger wine or a wine with some residual sugar.
