Cartograph: Our Journey In Wine

Great wine takes you places. It takes you back to the region where the grapes were grown. It takes you to the time and place where you first tasted that wine. It conjures memories of sharing wine with friends and family.

Cartograph is itself a destination, a road map and a journey. That journey is represented in the imagery that adorns the Cartograph label. Look closely and you’ll see where we’ve been, where our paths have crossed and the circumstances of several careers and experiences that defined who we are, how we think, how a passion for great wine was instilled within us and, finally, how Cartograph was created.

When you enjoy a Cartograph wine, our journeys come together. Where were you when you had your first taste of Cartograph wines?  Where were you when a glass of wine truly captured your attention? Where is your favorite wine from?  Share your stories with us and join our growing community of wine lovers at Cartograph.

Floodgate Vineyard is through verasion - looking great

AUGUST 23, 2011

I had to share a few pictures that I grabbed while looking at the grapes at Floodgate the other day. The Pinot is through veraison (when the berries turn from green to purple) and The Gewurztraminer is almost there. In the Gewurz pictures you can see a few berries that are starting to take on a golden hue. These berries are already tasting quite sweet so I’m wondering if the Gewurz will be the first fruit in this year?

Charlie Palmer's Pigs & Pinot

23 MARCH 2012

Today kicks off Charlier Palmer's Pigs & Pinot weekend and we are delighted to be part of two events.  Tonight 60 Pinot producers (picked by Charlie Palmer's crew) will be competing in the Pinot Cup competition.  Our 2009 Floodgate Vineyard Russian River Pinot will be part of this competition.  Guests will be able to taste the 60 different Pinots along side a variety of pork dishes.

Saturday evening we have the pleasure of being one of the two wineries involved in Spoonbar's "Eat 100" Pigs & Pinot Wine Dinner.  This is a four course dinner with Spoonbar's new chef Louis Maldonado from Aziza and guest chef Mateo Granados of Mateo's Concina Latina.  They have created a sumptuous meal that will be paired with two of our Pinot noirs and two Pinots from Emeritus.  We will be serving the 2009 Floodgate Vineyard Pinot Noir and the 2009 Perli Vineyard Pinot Noir.

It's going to be a fun weekend for us as we'll be able to present the wines, taste delicious pairings, and meet a lot of fellow pinot lovers.  Hope to see you there!  http://www.hotelhealdsburg.com/pigsandpinot/

Our micowinery & tasting room: Garagiste Healdsburg

31 JANUARY 2012

Should you find yourself in Healdsburg, California, we hope you will let us know you are in town and come taste with us at our cooperative microwinery/tasting room.  We call it a microwinery because we make two of our smallest production wines there - the Gewürztraminer and the Rosé.  In addition, we built a tasting room bar with deconstructed wine making parts.  Come by Garagiste Healdsburg on Thursdays - Sundays from noon to 7pm to taste our wines.  If you are in town on other days, just give us a call (707.836.3732) and we'll set up a private tasting on whatever day works for you.   www.garagistehbg.com

In addition to tasting, we try to promote the arts by having a variety of artists from painters to musicians to authors come to the tasting room on select Friday evenings at 6pm.  The artists share their talents with us and because it is an intimate setting, they answer questions and tell stories.  Hope you'll join us for one of our Friday Artist Sessions.
