After lining up the wines to get these notes together, I tend to forget just what a departure Sangiovese (from a warm vineyard) is from the cool-climate Pinot world where we spend so much of our time. The floral components of this wine are truly impressive. Big ripe cherry, orange zest, strawberry and a whole basket of red fruit come tumbling out of the glass. Oh, and by the way, there’s peach, licorice, cedar and watermelon in there as well. On the palate, you get classic Sangiovese graphite plus rose-petal notes. On the palate, it’s a little more subdued, with bright cranberry flavors — and some really pretty tannins announcing that this wine will be happy in your cellar for as many years as you’d like to let it hang out.
